Mutuals

Every other dating app makes money while you text into the void. We match you on personality, lifestyle and the home you grew up in for real, in-person conversations.

Mutuals - hero still

Mutuals is a different kind of dating app, one that matches you on who you actually are and then helps you go and meet. There is no endless feed of faces to rate and no clever opener typed into a chat that goes nowhere. You answer a short set of honest questions, the app builds a real read on your personality and your life, and it introduces you to people you would genuinely get along with.

Every other dating app makes its money while you sit and text into the void. Their incentive is to keep you swiping and typing, because an app that helps you leave is an app that loses a user. We think that is exactly backwards. The point of dating was never a tidy inbox or a long streak of matches, it is sitting across from someone real and finding out whether the two of you click. Mutuals is built to get you to that table, and to count it as a win when you no longer need us.

Mutuals - still

It starts with a four minute interview, thirteen questions that reach past height and hobbies to how you actually move through the world, what your home and your upbringing were like, and what you are looking for now. From your answers we build a portrait, then match on character and lifestyle rather than on a grid of photographs. When two portraits genuinely fit, the app proposes a real date with a time and a place, held by a small deposit so that both people show up. The conversation happens in person, where it was always meant to.

Mutuals - still

We are building Mutuals for the kind of connection that is still there decades later, not the kind that evaporates the moment the notifications stop. That means designing against our own engagement numbers and measuring success by the dates that actually happen and the relationships that begin, rather than the hours people spend staring at the app. It is a harder company to build and a far better one to be proud of, and we think the people who are tired of the void are ready for it.
